- Too much salt– having a habit of putting too much salt in the food you eat is a huge no-no. Diet rich in sodium will eventually increase the level of blood pressure in your body and produce harm to the kidneys in the long run. One great way to let go of this habit is to replace salt with natural herbs and spices as they can lend more flavor to the meal and are extremely healthy.
- Skipping sleep– if you think that being sleep deprived won’t cause any damage, well, you are wrong. The problem with skipping sleep is that it will have a negative impact on your kidney function as it is regulated by your sleep and wake cycles. Another bad thing associated with being sleep deprived is that it will make your cognitive function go slower and your immune system will be comprised too.
- Not drinking enough liquids– another bad habit is failing to drink 6 to 8 glasses of water every day. That amount of water is essential to stay hydrated during the day time. Failing to drink liquids will prevent your body from staying hydrated, as well as flushing out toxins out of the body. That is why doctors recommend drinking 6 to 8 glasses of water per day so your kidneys will function properly and the body stays hydrated and healthy.
- Drinking too much soda– when I said you are not drinking enough liquids I didn’t mean soda or maybe alcohol. I was talking about healthy drinks that are beneficial for the body. Drinking soda may quench your thirst but drinking more than two glasses of it can increase the risk of kidney problems. This is because soda can cause proteins to appear in urine and when this happens, it is a sign that your kidneys are damaged. The crucial thing to do here is to replace soda with water, green tea or freshly squeezed juice.
- Sedentary lifestyle– sitting in front of the TV, drinking beer and eating chips will make you prone to various diseases and kidney failure. One of the major problems with having a sedentary lifestyle is that it may cause a serious damage to your health. Not moving on a daily basis eventually leads to kidney stones. That is why you should lift your butt off of the sofa and start with a 30 minute walk every day and increase it over time.
